We have
been praying for D.C. sister since 2006. God's grace has been upon
her through the times when she had to separate from her husband
against her wish. The more recent prayer needs as she shared with
us have been her search for a more permanent place to live so that
her daughter, R., could go on to the same middle school as her other
elementary school friends. God sure answered our prayers because
she not only settled into an apartment in the location she has hoped
for, she has also been given this place in the most incredible manner.
For a number
of weeks, D.C. had been very worried about the search for a new
home. She was so unsure of herself and the possibility of finding
a place she could afford. Suddenly, a war broke out between her
and her ex-landlord which forced her to focus on moving out of her
old place.
She tried
one weekend when it was chucking it down with rain. Her effort was
of no avail. The deadline came closer and she became more anxious.
But in the midst of this storm, she fixed her faith and her eyes
on the Lord, and continued we stood firm and prayed in the same
direction.
The following
weekend came, she happened to be out looking for an apartment again,
and as she drove along a local road, she saw a brother from her
church strolling down from afar. While she would usually have driven
past, she found herself pulling up her car along the sidewalk and
waved hello to this brother. The good brother greeted her and they
began chatting. He heard that she was looking for a place to move
into. He pointed to a smaller street a few blocks ahead, and indicated
that she might find something there. Faithfully, she followed this
pointer.
Lo and
behold, D.C. saw an "Apartment To Rent" sign as soon as
she hit that street. She got off the car with R. and went into the
premises to make inquiries. There the landlady was sitting already
signing a contract with a man. D.C. introduced herself and explained
her needs to the lady, and pleaded to her to consider her instead.
They created quite a bit of noise and must have alerted the tenant
who lived upstairs. This tenant came downstairs, pulling the landlady
aside, whispered something into her ears. Then, amazingly, the landlady
compromised and asked D.C. to quickly complete the application form
and to return it the very next day. Just imagine how our dear sister
D.C. felt at the time!!! She was so overjoyed!!
So that
was how D.C. got the apartment despite another man already having
signed the contract. She later found out that the tenant who lived
upstairs and spoke to the landlady was actually also a single mom
with a daughter. This tenant had quietly hoped that the new tenant
downstairs would have children to play with her daughter. D.C. also
realized later on that the man who signed the contract in the first
place was introduced to the landlady by this tenant upstairs! So
this loving neighbor must have changed her mind as she saw D.C.
and R., and persuaded the landlady to give the apartment to D.C.
instead! What awesome work of the Holy Spirit!
And this
was not the end of the story. D.C. had no furniture at all when
she moved out of her old place. She had needed everything starting
from basics. This upstairs neighbor not only offered her friendship,
she also offered her blankets and mattress in the first nights as
D.C. moved in. Then, as D.C. called around for help, another of
our prayer team member, C.C. (D.C.'s former neighbor), found a number
of furniture and items by relaying the message to her small group
at the church. The same weekend, a number of strong brothers from
C.C.'s small group delivered these items in a van to D.C.. She was
overwhelmed by their kindness as they arrived at her doorsteps and
offloaded these necessities to her.
